Hunter macros

Hunters fight alongside a pet, so many hunter macros give the pet an order on the same press as your own shot or trap. These are the ones that turn up most across 17 independent guides and forum threads, most used first, each written for Forever and checked against the beta spell list.

Most used

Auto Shot, finds a target

10 sources

You start Auto Shot, picking the nearest enemy first if you have no live hostile target, and a second press never turns it off.

#showtooltip
/targetenemy [noexists][dead][help]
/cast !Auto Shot

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Stop melee first

#showtooltip
/cleartarget [dead]
/targetenemy [noharm]
/stopattack
/cast !Auto Shot

Explain line by line

Send pet on the pull

#showtooltip
/targetenemy [noexists][dead][help]
/petattack [nocombat]
/cast !Auto Shot

Explain line by line

Auto Shot is still a toggle in Forever, doesn't start the global cooldown, and has an 8-yard minimum range. Other abilities no longer clip it (Icy Veins).

Call, revive or mend pet

9 sources

You revive the pet if it's dead or you hold Shift, call it if it's dismissed, and mend it otherwise.

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift][@pet,dead] Revive Pet; [nopet] Call Pet; Mend Pet

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Automatic revive fallback

#showtooltip
/cast [@pet,nodead,exists] Mend Pet
/stopmacro [@pet,nodead,exists]
/cast [@pet,dead,exists] Revive Pet
/castsequence reset=2 Call Pet, Revive Pet

Explain line by line

Call or dismiss

#showtooltip
/cast [pet] Dismiss Pet; Call Pet

Explain line by line

Forever has a single Call Pet, so retail's Call Pet 1 doesn't apply. Revive Pet has a 10-second cast and Mend Pet channels for 5 seconds. [@pet,dead] doesn't always see a dead pet, which is what Shift is for.

Melee button

9 sources

You queue Raptor Strike, start auto-attack, and use Counterattack or Mongoose Bite when a parry or dodge lights them up; the same /startattack shape suits Lacerate and Strider Kick.

#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/startattack
/cast Raptor Strike
/cast Counterattack
/cast Mongoose Bite

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Survival with Strider Kick

#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast Raptor Strike
/cast Mongoose Bite
/cast Strider Kick

Explain line by line

Ability with auto-attack

#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast Lacerate

Explain line by line

Raptor Strike doesn't start the global cooldown, so Counterattack or Mongoose Bite can go off on the same press. Survival is a melee spec in Forever, with Lacerate from level 30 and Strider Kick on an 8-second cooldown.

Pet-safe Freezing Trap

7 sources

You stop your own attacks, pull the pet off, and lay Freezing Trap, so nothing of yours breaks the ice.

#showtooltip
/stopattack
/petfollow
/petpassive
/cast Freezing Trap

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Pet stays where it is

#showtooltip
/stopattack
/petstay [@pettarget,harm]
/petpassive [@pettarget,harm]
/cast Freezing Trap

Explain line by line

Frost Trap on Alt

#showtooltip
/stopattack
/petfollow
/petpassive
/cast [mod:alt] Frost Trap; Freezing Trap

Explain line by line

Classic versions add Feign Death first, since Classic won't let you lay a trap in combat. Freezing Trap comes at level 20, with a 30-second cooldown.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: laying traps in combat.

Feed Pet with food

7 sources

You feed the pet the named food in one press when it's out and you're out of combat; put your pet's food in place of Roasted Quail.

#showtooltip
/cast [pet,nodead,nocombat] Feed Pet
/use [pet,nodead,nocombat] Roasted Quail

Explain line by line

Another version

Mend Pet in combat

#showtooltip
/cast [combat] Mend Pet; Feed Pet
/use [nocombat] Roasted Quail

Explain line by line

Feeding still raises your pet's happiness in Forever, and food close to the pet's level works better.

Mark and send pet

6 sources

You put Hunter's Mark on the target and send the pet in with one press.

#showtooltip
/petattack
/cast Hunter's Mark

Explain line by line

Another version

Start Auto Shot too

#showtooltip
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast Hunter's Mark

Explain line by line

/petattack doesn't start the global cooldown, so the pet goes in on the same press. Survival's Expose Prey talent lets Mongoose Bite fire on marked targets in Forever (classicwow.gg).

Scatter Shot, pet held back

6 sources

You pull the pet off before Scatter Shot so it doesn't break the disorient.

#showtooltip
/petfollow
/petpassive
/cast Scatter Shot

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Mouse-over first

#showtooltip
/petfollow
/petpassive
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Scatter Shot

Explain line by line

Pet stays where it is

#showtooltip
/petstay [@pettarget,harm]
/petpassive [@pettarget,harm]
/cast Scatter Shot

Explain line by line

Scatter Shot turns off your own attack, so there's no /stopattack line. It disorients for 4 seconds, with a 15-yard range and a 30-second cooldown.

Shot that keeps Auto Shot

6 sources

You pick a target if you need one, fire the shot or sting, and make sure Auto Shot is running; it suits Serpent Sting, Arcane Shot, Concussive Shot, Multi-Shot, Aimed Shot, Viper Sting and Scorpid Sting.

#showtooltip
/targetenemy [noexists][dead][help]
/cast Serpent Sting
/cast !Auto Shot

Explain line by line

Another version

Send pet on the pull

#showtooltip
/petattack [nocombat]
/cast Arcane Shot
/cast !Auto Shot

Explain line by line

Aimed Shot has a 2-second cast in Forever (3 in Classic) and shares its 6-second cooldown with Multi-Shot. Summon Hawk, new in Forever, shares Arcane Shot's cooldown.

Pet control

Pet commands like /petattack, /petfollow, /petpassive and /petstay aren't spells, so they don't start your global cooldown and can share a press with a shot. Pet abilities such as Charge, Dash and Dive go in with /cast, and a line for one your pet doesn't have does nothing. A pet set to Passive stays that way until you send it in again or set it to Defensive.

Send the pet in

9 sources

You send the pet at the enemy under your cursor, or your target, and use its Charge, Dash or Dive to get there faster.

#showtooltip
/petattack [@mouseover,harm,nodead][]
/cast Charge
/cast Dash
/cast Dive

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Keep the pet on this target

#showtooltip
/targetenemy [noexists][dead][help]
/petfollow
/petpassive
/petattack
/cast Charge
/cast Dash
/cast Dive

Explain line by line

Attack only

/petattack [@mouseover,harm,nodead][]

Explain line by line

In Forever, Charge is Boar only, Dash is on most families, and Dive is on bats, birds of prey, carrion birds and wind serpents.

Pull the pet back

7 sources

You call the pet back on Passive and use Dash or Dive so it gets clear faster, for example out of a boss effect or away from a second pack.

#showtooltip
/petfollow
/petpassive
/cast Dash
/cast Dive

5 sources

You turn Growl autocast on or off from a key, usually on when solo and off in a group.

#showtooltip Growl
/petautocasttoggle Growl

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Growl solo, Cower in groups

#showtooltip Growl
/petautocaston [group] Cower; [nogroup] Growl
/petautocastoff [nogroup] Cower; [group] Growl

Explain line by line

#showtooltip
/cast Growl

Explain line by line

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: pet autocast commands.

Pet attack or follow

4 sources

You recall the pet if it's attacking and send it at your target if it isn't, on one key.

/petfollow [@pettarget,exists]
/petattack [@pettarget,noexists]

Explain line by line

Another version

Shift to recall

/petattack [pet,nomod]
/petfollow [pet,mod]

Explain line by line

The /petfollow line has to come first; the other way round, one press can send the pet and call it straight back.

Also common

Swap Hawk and Monkey

5 sources

You drop Cheetah and switch between Aspect of the Hawk and Aspect of the Monkey on one key, one aspect per press.

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Aspect of the Cheetah
/cast !Aspect of the Hawk
/cast !Aspect of the Monkey

Explain line by line

Another version

Hawk only, drops Cheetah

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Aspect of the Cheetah
/cast !Aspect of the Hawk

Explain line by line

Aspect of the Beast gives melee attack power in Forever, so Survival can use it in place of Monkey.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: whether casting an active aspect turns it off.

Flare or Volley at cursor

5 sources

You drop the spell where your cursor is, without the second placement click; it suits Flare, Enchanted Flare and Volley.

#showtooltip
/cast [@cursor] Flare

Explain line by line

Enchanted Flare is new in Forever. It comes at level 32, has a 30-second cooldown, and also holds off magical darkness. Flare reaches 30 yards and has a 15-second cooldown.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: casting at the cursor with [@cursor].

Mouse-over shot or sting

5 sources

You cast on the enemy under your cursor, or your target if there's none, without changing target; it suits Hunter's Mark, Serpent Sting, Viper Sting, Scorpid Sting, Scare Beast and Tranquilizing Shot.

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Hunter's Mark

Explain line by line

Safe Feign Death

4 sources

You stop your attacks, any cast and the pet, then feign death, and only in combat so the cooldown isn't wasted.

#showtooltip
/stopattack
/stopcasting

/cast [combat] Feign Death

Explain line by line

Feign Death comes at level 30, doesn't start the global cooldown, and has a 30-second cooldown.

Chain Eagle Eye

4 sources

You cast Eagle Eye without cancelling it if it's already up, so you can scout without snapping back each time.

#showtooltip
/cast !Eagle Eye

Explain line by line

Another version

Explain line by line

Eagle Eye comes at level 14, lasts 1 minute and only works outdoors.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: how Eagle Eye is aimed.

Cheetah on and off

/cast Aspect of the Cheetah

Explain line by line

2 other versions

Explain line by line

Pack with a friend targeted

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Aspect of the Pack
/cancelaura Aspect of the Cheetah
/cast [help] Aspect of the Pack; Aspect of the Cheetah

Explain line by line

Cheetah and Pack still daze you for 4 seconds when you're hit. Cheetah comes at level 20 and Pack at 40.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: whether casting an active aspect turns it off.

Deterrence with Monkey

3 sources

You pop Deterrence and make sure Aspect of the Monkey is on, in one press.

#showtooltip
/cast Deterrence
/cast !Aspect of the Monkey

Explain line by line

Deterrence doesn't start the global cooldown, so both go off on one press.

Rapid Fire with trinkets

3 sources

You use Rapid Fire and both trinkets together; Bestial Wrath fits the same shape, and Berserking or Blood Fury can be added.

#showtooltip
/cast Rapid Fire
/use 13
/use 14

Explain line by line

Rapid Fire, Berserking and Blood Fury don't start the global cooldown. Bestial Wrath and Intimidation both do, so they can't go on the same press.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: a trinket and a spell on one press.

For particular jobs

Intimidation and pet attack

Beast Mastery · 2 sources

You send the pet in and prime Intimidation, so its next hit stuns.

#showtooltip
/petattack
/cast Intimidation

Explain line by line

Intimidation stuns for 3 seconds and has a 1-minute cooldown. In Forever, the hit that stuns also gains 100% increased critical strike chance.

#showtooltip Wing Clip
/startattack
/cast Raptor Strike

2 sources

You try top-rank Wing Clip and fall back to cheaper ranks when you're short on mana.

#showtooltip Wing Clip
/cast Wing Clip
/cast Wing Clip(Rank 2)
/cast Wing Clip(Rank 1)

Explain line by line

Wing Clip has 3 ranks in Forever, at levels 12, 38 and 60.

Not confirmed in the Forever beta yet: pinning a rank, like Frostbolt(Rank 1).

Shadowmeld with cat Prowl

2 sources

You Shadowmeld and have your cat Prowl on the same press, without cancelling either if it's already on.

#showtooltip
/cast !Shadowmeld
/cast !Prowl

Explain line by line

Shadowmeld is Night Elf only, and only cats have Prowl.
